About This Service

“Should I Buy This Bottle?” is a product of Diving Moose Studios, LLC. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Diving Moose Studios, LLC.

Bottle Lookups

You can search for a bottle, scan a barcode, or photograph a label without an account. The bottle information you submit is sent to our service providers so we can identify the bottle, find pricing evidence, and generate a recommendation. If you allow location access, we use the resulting zip code to make pricing more relevant to your area.

Price History

We keep anonymous price observations to improve typical-price ranges over time. A price observation can include a normalized bottle name, a price you entered or a price found by the service, its source, the date, and a broad region such as a US state. These rows do not include your account ID, email address, exact location, search photo, or barcode image.

Accounts and MyBar

An account is optional and is currently used for MyBar and Pro features. When you sign in, Supabase stores your email address, account identifier, sign-in provider, account and last-sign-in times, and profile details such as a display name when your sign-in provider supplies one. We also keep a Should I Buy This Bottle account record so users from other products in our shared authentication project are not treated as customers of this product. If you use MyBar, we store the bottles, status, ratings, notes, purchase details, and taste profile you choose to save.

Feedback You Send Us

When you send feedback, we store your message, the category you picked, available device and app details, and the name, email address, or app-generated identifier included with the submission. The email field is optional in places where feedback can be sent without signing in. We use this information to read, organize, and reply to your message.

Camera and Photos

The camera is only used when you choose to scan or photograph a bottle. When you scan a barcode with the live camera in the apps, the reading happens entirely on your device and no image is ever uploaded. When you photograph a label, or pick an existing photo for us to read, that single image is sent to our AI provider so it can identify the bottle, then discarded. If you separately choose to contribute a bottle photo to the catalog, we keep and display that photo until it is removed. We never browse your photo library.

Purchases and Billing

Stripe processes website Pro purchases, including browser checkout opened from an eligible mobile app. Apple and Google process purchases made through their respective store billing systems. The checkout identifies the payment provider before purchase. We do not receive your complete card details. For Pro access and account billing, we store the plan, entitlement and subscription status, relevant purchase and expiration dates, and provider customer or subscription identifiers needed to keep access and the billing portal working. For eligible Android purchases opened in a browser, we also keep the Google Play reporting token, link and transaction references, billing country and state, amounts, taxes, refunds, and relevant dates. We report the required transaction information to Google to operate its external content links program and reconcile purchases and refunds.

Account and Product Emails

Requesting a sign-in link and successfully creating or using a Should I Buy This Bottle? account subscribes the account email to occasional product news and updates under our Terms. We record whether the preference is pending, subscribed, or unsubscribed, along with the applicable enrollment or unsubscribe time. Accounts that previously unsubscribed remain unsubscribed, including after another sign-in. Existing pending accounts become subscribed the next time their holder completes a Should I Buy This Bottle? account sign-in. For broadcasts, we keep the message and a protected delivery audit, including the recipient-address snapshot and provider message identifiers, so interrupted sends can resume without emailing the same person twice. Every marketing email includes a way to unsubscribe. Unsubscribing from product news does not stop account, billing, security, or support messages needed to provide the service.

Third-Party Services

We use AI models through Vercel AI Gateway and search or browsing providers such as Brave Search and Browserless to identify bottles and find pricing evidence. Supabase provides authentication and database storage. Stripe, Apple, and Google process payments. Resend delivers authentication, support, and optional product emails. Vercel provides hosting and analytics. These providers process the information needed for their part of the service under their own terms and privacy policies.

Cookies & Local Storage

We use browser local storage to save preferences such as light or dark appearance. If you sign in, we use Supabase session cookies to keep you signed in and protect account pages. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

Data Retention and Deletion

We do not keep uploaded label or barcode images after processing them. Account, MyBar, entitlement, billing-reference, feedback, and marketing-preference records are kept while they are needed to provide the service, maintain support history, or meet legal and operational obligations. Anonymous price observations may remain as part of the aggregated price-history dataset. Request permanent deletion in Account > Delete account or at shouldibuythisbottle.com/account/delete. Bottle access closes and marketing stops immediately. We complete deletion of your Bottle profile, MyBar records, taste profile, identifiable feedback, contributed photos, and marketing data within 30 days and email confirmation. We retain limited deletion and billing records to prevent reactivation and protect purchase ownership. Your shared sign-in and other Diving Moose products, including MoosePad, remain available. Account deletion does not cancel provider subscriptions or issue refunds.

Children’s Privacy

This service is intended for users of legal drinking age. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 21.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
