Information We Collect
We collect minimal information to provide our service. When you search for a bottle, scan a barcode, or photograph a label, that query is sent to our AI providers (OpenAI and Google) to generate a recommendation. If you allow location access, your approximate location is turned into a zip code so pricing can reflect your region. None of that is kept: it is processed as the request happens and then discarded. Using the app or the website does not require an account, and we never ask for your name, address, or phone number. The one thing we do keep is feedback you choose to send us, described below.
Feedback You Send Us
The iPhone and Android apps have a feedback form, and this is the only place where we store information about you. Sending it saves your message, the category you picked, the model of your device, its operating system version, the app version, and an anonymous identifier for your device that lets us tell repeat reports apart. The identifier is not tied to your name or your account, because there is no account. The email field is optional: fill it in if you would like a reply, leave it blank and the form still works. We use all of this only to read and answer your message. We do not sell it, market to you, or share it with anyone.
Camera and Photos
The camera is only used when you choose to scan or photograph a bottle. When you scan a barcode with the live camera in the apps, the reading happens entirely on your device and no image is ever uploaded. When you photograph a label, or pick an existing photo for us to read, that single image is sent to our AI provider so it can identify the bottle, then discarded. We do not keep your photographs and we never browse your photo library.
In-App Purchases
The apps include an optional tip jar. Payment is handled entirely by Apple and Google under their own privacy policies. We never see your card details, and we do not receive or store any payment information.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to power recommendations and pricing: AI models accessed through Vercel AI Gateway (currently OpenAI for recommendations and Google Gemini for image analysis) and Brave Search for web-based product and market price lookups. These services may process your queries under their own privacy policies. Feedback you send is stored in Supabase, our database provider. We also use Vercel for hosting and analytics.
Cookies & Local Storage
We use browser local storage to save your theme preference (light, dark, or system). We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.
Data Retention and Deletion
We do not store your search queries, barcode scans, photographs, or recommendation results. Those are processed in real time and not logged. Feedback is the exception: we keep it so we can reply and pick the conversation back up later. Ask us to delete it and we will, along with the email address and device details attached to it. Email [email protected] or use the support page, and tell us roughly when you wrote in so we can find the right message.
Children’s Privacy
This service is intended for users of legal drinking age. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 21.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
